In Memory Of Rob Bamsey

October 2021

“We don’t ever say a final goodbye. We just say ‘I’ll see you down the road’.” – Chloe Zhao
Rob Bamsey arrived at Mixed Freight on 4th September 2001, looking for a new career and a fresh start. Rob previously worked as an entertainment manager for several venues in the Spanish islands. When he arrived at Heathrow, he didn’t even know where or what the M25 was, but little did he know was about to embark on a new journey and life with Mixed Freight that would see him through to retirement.
Rob lived for and loved his work, and over the course of his almost 20 years at Mixed Freight he became a
cherished, dedicated, and beloved team member, working in both driving and office roles.
Rob started off driving 7.5 ton vehicle for Mixed Freight, until 2004 when he suffered a heart attack that brought him into our offices. This didn’t stop his growth and trajectory at Mixed Freight however, as he went on to become one of our operations supervisors.
Rob had a particular passion for the big annual events Mixed Freight supplied vehicles, transportation, and handling for, including Notting Hill Carnival, Pride and Hyde Park festival. One of our fondest memories is of Rob supporting Lionel Richie and Jennifer Lopez (yes, you heard that right) at Hyde Park festival.
On his 62nd Birthday we sent him to deliver a vehicle for the festival, but little did he know on his arrival we had a costume waiting for him, he’d be supporting the day’s festivities and had an afterparty to attend. He danced the night away on-and-backstage with the A-listers. He was always a bubbly, outgoing and harismatic team player.
As a latecomer to lorry driving, Rob was over the moon with pride when he obtained his LGV Class 1 license. He never stopped working, even into his retirement taking on fulltime work driving articulated trucks. His dedication and loyalty to Mixed Freight was unparalleled. Rob knew how to work hard and celebrate all his hard work with the team too.
“He was like a stick of rock with Mixed Freight all the way through, his loyalty was unquestionable.”
– Steve O’Keeffe
He was due to take extended leave this year to undergo a back operation. Unfortunately, Rob was diagnosed with throat cancer prior to the operation. He received treatment and battled through whilst keeping in regular contact with us. Sadly, a recent scan confirmed the cancer had spread throughout his body and his health quality deteriorated. It was with great sadness that we learnt he had passed away on 13th September 2021.
In our industry at Mixed Freight, everybody’s contribution is crucial for our successful operations. On the road. Behind the desk. In the warehouse. We can’t do what we do without the team behind us.
Rob was a staple of our operations for 20 years.
His presence, his liveliness, his work ethic, and
contributions will be sorely missed by us all.
We won’t forget the memories and legacy Rob has contributed towards the company.
One of his greatest lines was “don’t worry, I’ll sort it”.
